In Bewilderment and Awe

Eli, with a permanent grin that spreads ear-to-ear, takes me by the hand.

Look Mr. T, I am as tall as you.

Eli is autistic. He’s in kindergarten.

Emma with twin dimples and infectious giggles, pushes a chair out with her foot.

Mr. T, come sit next to me, OK?

Emma has Downs Syndrome. She’s in first grade.

Adrian, with eyeglasses bigger than face, sidles up next to Emma.

Wanna help me make a hexagonal pyramid with these sticks and balls?

Adrian is visual. He’s Emma’s friend.

Nancy, a very important politician with beautiful hair, stands up and proudly says

We have a moral responsibility to protect God’s creation.

Nancy is Christian. She is also pro-abortion.

God, the Creator of heaven, earth, and all living creatures said

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you and before you were born I consecrated you.

Jeremiah 1:5

Eli smiles. (I beam)

Emma giggles. (I obey)

Adrian builds, (I admire)

Nancy speaks. (I wonder…in bewilderment and awe)
