A Noticeable Contrast

Behold, I will bring…health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.

Jeremiah 33:6

Saturday, March 15, 2014. Guǎngzhōu China.

Zhōng Zé Bīng, Lài Xiǎo Jié and I arrive at Lu Xinliu’s hospital room. At least I think it is a hospital room. Sanitary conditions are deplorable, toilet is disgusting.

The smell is even worse.

Flies are buzzing around the environment and gently smacking into the only window in her room which has a sickly yellowish blackish film adhered to it. It’s as though the window itself is the lung of a 50-year smoker.

This is not far from the truth because doctors, nurses and visitors can be seen huffing, puffing, wheezing their nasty cancer-stick-coffin-nails right outside her room.

The only bright spot is this smiling face.

Meet my student.

Her name is 陆新柳 (Lu Xinliu)
